At Camp Shane, we are all about having fun! When you think of a fat camp or boot camp, what do you imagine? You probably envision somewhere that is tough and not very fun. Maybe you think of drill sergeants, rules, and no flexibility. Well, we are not a fat camp or a boot camp. Our weight loss program is run just like a traditional sleep-away camp, but with all the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

In this healthy environment, the average weight loss weekly is 3-5 pounds or more. In six weeks at camp, the average weight loss is 20-25 pounds! Our goal is to lose weight the healthy way, equipping our campers with the tools they will need to start and continue a healthy lifestyle. We want our campers to succeed at camp and succeed at home. We create that foundation for lifelong success and will make the necessary changes in each camper. Simply put, Camp Shane is an awesome weight loss camp and kids love it here. Everyone is here for the same reason, which creates a feeling of belonging and positivity.

Obesity is a rising epidemic in the United States, especially in children. Childhood obesity can lead to serious health problems, including diabetes. Kids know that eating less and moving more will contribute to weight loss, but it becomes frustrated when instant results are not achieved. Kids need motivation and at Camp Shane, weight loss is guaranteed. We create an encouraging environment where kids CANNOT fail. As far as weight loss camps go…WE ROCK!

We are all about being active, happy and fun. We are a non-competitive, non-threatening environment, ensuring that each camper experiences permanent and positive changes. The campers will get to play fun sports and participate in activities like in any traditional camp. We also teach basic nutrition and cooking classes, with discussion groups that build strong self-esteem through specialized programs. As far as weight loss camps go…WE ROCK!

How do we lose weight? Nutrition is a big part and we don’t serve diet food at our weight loss camp. Our campers will eat three healthy and delicious portion-controlled meals and two snacks every day. We serve food that kids will actually like! It is a simple plan that kids can continue after leaving camp. Our weight loss plan is scientifically proven to be the single most effective way to lose weight and keep it off long term. The key is proper diet combined with exercise. We do not starve our campers, but rather offer a delicious menu that is prepared in a healthful way and nutritionally approved by a Registered Dietitian. Did we mention that as far as weight loss camps go…WE ROCK?!

After a week or so, campers will start to notice the difference in themselves. When the pants start to fall down, our campers get more motivated and excited, creating a sense of support and closeness. Kids will reach out and encourage each other to try new activities or push themselves harder. While at camp, kids also will learn about forming relationships. At our weight loss camp, there are no distractions like TV, video games, or computers. There is more time for talking, listening, and self-growth. Camp becomes a community in which we all belong and feel like a family! We keep in touch with our campers and they keep in touch with each other.
